A little over a year ago, I was out of a job and had some time off, and I got really inspired by creating a dark sci-fi universe using mechanics I had developed for my Boundless system. What started as almost a game on a napkin, a one-page RPG, grew to 16 pages and eventually 90~ pages. In a matter of weeks, I went from idea to a full-fledged game that I released, and it became a community favorite with over 10,000 views on itch.io. That game is Voidlight.
Voidlight is a rules-bright sci-fi horror dungeon crawl where your only safety is a beam of light that shrinks every 10 minutes: the Voidlight itself. It is a 6d6 dice pool that shrinks on a 10-minute timer. You descend to a space station bolted to a migrating space leviathan, explore the void, and build your own sci-fi adventures in this dying future. It is light on rules and bound to the dark.
In this game, you owe so much to the Concord Corporation that you had no choice: you were forced to enlist as a Delver in the Gut, crawling through the innards of a space-faring monster in search of lost treasures while fending off the dark.
When I released the game, the Boundless system had not been released yet. I had been talking about it for a while, but it wasn’t available. The game forced me to release the system, and I quickly iterated on it; and and the system itself became one of my proudest achievements.
With the help of my friend Andy from Pandion Games, we took the game and brought it to print. Today I’m super excited to announce that it is available for you to order. It is built for one GM and two to four players, but you can also play co-op or solo. It uses D6-based dice pools and has compact combat rules for fast, deadly encounters.
